Editor’s Choice Best Heavy Duty Sewing Machines
In our list of Top 6 Best Heavy Duty Sewing Machines In U.S, we have omitted a couple of heavy duty machines that didn’t meet the quality standards we were looking for.
SINGER 4411 Heavy Duty Sewing Machine
Singer 4411 is a member of Singer’s heavy duty machine family, which include 4 machines. This is the least expensive heavy duty sewing machine available in U.S. Being the least expensive machine, you will have to keep your expectation levels quite low.
As it is a low-cost sewing machine, you won’t get any advanced features like 1-step buttonhole or automatic needle threader. 4411 comes with 11 built-in stitches.
Low price is the biggest selling point of this machine. It has some nice features like a top drop-in bobbin, extra high presser foot lifter etc. Adjustable presser foot pressure is another useful feature.
Singer has made some sacrifices on this machine to bring the cost down. It is not all heavy duty; there are some plastic parts.
SINGER Sewing 4432 Heavy Duty Extra-High Speed Sewing Machine
4432 is another step ahead from the previous machine. The only difference between this one and the Singer 4423 (the machine that ranks 3rd in this list) is that 4432 has 32 built-in stitches. So the choice between 4432 and 4423 comes down to the extra 9 stitches that 4432 has.
What 4432 has in extra when compared to Singer 4423 are 3 additional stretch stitches & 6 additional decorative stitches.
If you take out the stitch numbers out of the equation, both machines are the same. So there is no point in discussing the pros and cons. Personally speaking, I don’t feel it is worth spending few dollars more for just 9 additional stitches.
You can get all the basic stitches you need with 4423. So I think, 4423 will be a better option.
SINGER 4423 Heavy Duty Model Sewing Machine
4423 is slightly more advanced in features than the 4411. It is the second least expensive, heavy duty sewing machine you can get in America. It comes with 23 built-in stitches. Even though the price is on the lower side, it still is one of the best heavy duty sewing machines for beginners.
Out of the 4 Singer heavy duty machines, this is the best seller because of the affordability and advanced features.
The machine is very much affordable. It has a premium look to it.
Advanced features like 1-step buttonhole and automatic needle threader are available. A Strong motor capable of delivering 1,100 stitches/min is another highlight. The machine sews some nice stitches.
The machine seems to struggle with multiple layers of denim (8 plus). So you can’t quite say that it is good for heavy duty fabrics.
Janome HD1000 Mechanical Sewing Machine
This is the second best heavy duty sewing machine you can get in U.S. I have no words to explain how good this machine is. It sews through anything you throw at it. The quality of stitches is excellent. It comes with 14 built-in stitches.
Most parts are metal, wherever Janome used plastic, they used high-quality plastic. It is a solid machine. There is nothing cheap about this machine.
First thing you notice is, this can sew anything. The quality of stitches is commendable. It lives up to its ‘Heavy Duty’ tag.
It lacks a couple of beginners’ features like top drop-in bobbin and a 1-step buttonhole. The number of built-in stitches is very less.
Janome HD3000 Sewing Machine
What you don’t get with HD1000 is all present in HD3000. Janome HD3000 is the best heavy duty sewing machine available in U.S. It has 18 built-in stitches. It is also the weightiest of all the machines in this list.
The weight will give you some idea about the percentage of metal in this machine. HD3000 is hands down winner among heavy duty sewing machines.
This machine can take anything. It sews through hard leather and denim like a knife going through butter. From a beginner, it has 1-step buttonhole and drop-in bobbin. These features were lacking in HD1000. The stitches come out perfect on this machine. It is a real workhorse.
The work light is dim. Some may consider this machine as expensive, especially when you consider the number of built-in stitches.
SINGER 5532 Heavy Duty Extra-High Sewing Speed Sewing Machine
The interesting thing is that 5532 is the same as 4432 except for the price. Currently, there is a few dollars price difference between 4432 and 5532, with 5532 being the more expensive. When you compare the features side by side, I see no difference in features.
The singer has done a poor job in pricing. The singer must have provided some distinctive features for the higher price. Not impressed.
This concludes our list of best heavy duty sewing machines available in U.S. My recommendations will be
- Buy Singer 4423, if you are on a tight budget
- Buy HD3000, if you value quality and ease of use
Apart from 4423, other Singer machines are not highly recommended as the price is very confusing. Also because the features you get are more or less the same.
